The Dark Knight Re-Release In January
The Dark Knight Re-Release In January
Quote:
It seems that Warner Bros is digging for “Gold” with The Dark Knight, Oscar Gold. They are currently in talks about re-releasing the film in January, which is a well played move considering they will certainly be nominated for quite a few awards. Maybe not “the big one”, but we can still hope! It would make history if it did in fact become an Oscar Nominated “Best Film”. Even if it doesn’t make it quite that high, then I would hope that besides all the technical, cinematography and editing nods, that they would also be sure to nominate the man that made this whole extravaganza happen… Christopher Nolan! Not to mention his brother Jonathan Nolan who wrote the masterpiece. As for the deserving actors… you’d really have to give them all nominations for their incredible roles! We’ll still keep our fingers crossed for that posthumous nomination (and win!) for the brilliant Heath Ledger and his portrayal of the sinister Joker.
Warners domestic distribution president, Dan Fellman, confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that the year’s biggest film is likely to come back on IMAX screens across the States, although it’s not clear if conventional theaters will also play the movie. If they want any hope of sinking that awful ’ship’ that’s held the top spot on the box office with $600 million, they should definitely consider re-releasing to all theaters. They are going to have to make another 70-75 million to do it, but we can always hope.
The Dark Knight will be out on DVD and Blu-Ray by January, but it can certainly remind Academy voters of the movie’s power, wonderful performances and technical excellence. Not to mention the fact that although I will be one of the first ones in line for the DVD, there is NO WAY it will ever compare to seeing the film on the big screen. I feel the same with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I own all the individual DVD’s and even the extended box sets for each, but it will never come close to the feeling of seeing it in the theater. The Dark Knight will be no exception, it is a “theater film” for sure. Christopher Nolan in all of his brilliance, took us TO Gotham and along for the ride. The IMAX scenes were intense and legendary and one can only feel the power of them on the grand scale they were meant to be displayed on.
So, come on Warners! Go for it! Let’s sink that damn ship once and for all. And, maybe get some BIG Oscar Nods in the process!
