Green Thing, the not for profit online community that aims to make it easy and enjoyable for people to be green, has launched its inaugural annual short film competition named “Short Green Things”. Oscar and BAFTA - award winning film directors, Sam Mendes (American Beauty) and Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland) will be among a panel of esteemed judges who will select the most positive and inspiring environmental films.
Green Thing is calling for aspiring filmmakers to submit a two-minute film which focuses on three of Green Thing’s monthly initiatives: “Stick With What Your Got” (because we buy more than we need); “Easy On The Meat” (because meat produces more CO2 than transportation) and “Stay Grounded” (because flying is the new smoking). The competition aims to galvanise entrants to the wider fight against climate change and reinforce Green Thing’s belief that pieces of creativity can help change the world. “Short Green Things” is free to enter and submissions can now be made by visiting www.dothegreenthing.com/comp_details. The two winners will receive filmmaking equipment, Nokia phones and an internship with a top production company as well as having their films showcased on MySpace and Y! for Good. Additionally, as part of its campaign with Impact UK to enable the community to make a difference, MySpace will offer £50,000 worth of promotional value to the winners. The awards and screening ceremony will be held on 22nd November at London’s Truman Brewery, to which the short listed directors will also be invited. |
